The Maldives is one of the many nations across the planet that suffer from the effects of climate change and other environmental problems. It's important to know the consequences of the rising sea level on the Maldives as it can lead to the damage of many properties, leaving people homeless; destruction of agriculture, leaving many without food; and death could be the final result of the chain reactions of consequences.

There are many environmental issues that arise due to the effects of climate change, including:
  • groundwater contamination;
  • depletion of coral reefs caused by warmer oceans;
  • declining fish populations declining;
  • solid waste disposal (plastic/paper/oil);
  • sewage disposal;
  • freshwater availability;
  • soil degradation.

These are only a few core issues that the Maldives are facing today, and the government has given high priority to raising public awareness about environmental issues in recent years by initiating environmentally-sound actions at individual, household, and community levels. A number of government agencies and NGOs have been involved in promoting environmental awareness. Environmental education programs have been incorporated into primary and secondary school curricula, which has proven to be very effective. Younger generations are becoming more aware of the delicate nature of our ecosystem and its vulnerability to natural and man-made changes.

All of this raises a bigger question: how can all of the initiated measures be supported and processes sped up? Today, the major constraints in environmental management are the lack of trained manpower, scientific equipment, and research facilities, as well as severe limitations or lack of funds.

Even though there has always been a level of confusion over what an individual can do to make the biggest impact in this grand fight of saving the environment, it has to be understood that in today’s world, people need more incentives to make environmentally-friendly choices to meet climate change responsibilities.

That is why we want to adapt the latest technology and discoveries to find incentives for big companies, as well as ecological hotels, to fight climate change together, to fight pollution, and to find working long-term solutions for a sustainable future, so that the unique habitats on our planet are not only loved by people, but are also preserved and well protected for future generations to enjoy and thrive!
